GOOD TO KNOW
The rights and duties of permanent resident
Permanent resident can work and study in Canada with his family but he can not occupy some jobs requiring an authorization of high-level security. Education costs are the same as those applied to Canadian citizens.
As a permanent resident it's required to be present on Canadian territory for a certain period. Once validated, it can apply for citizenship.
Throughout this period, a permanent resident enjoys the same social benefit as Canadian, such as health insurance, social insurance, unemployment etc.
A permanent resident can not remain in Canada if convicted of a serious crime and that he was ordered to leave the country.
The right to vote is granted him once he became a Canadian citizen.
